Ⅰ. Guidance

Based on the standpoints, viewpoints and methods of Marxism, Maoist Ideology and Deng Xiaoping Theory, the specialty trains students to develop scientific habits of mind with good psychological quality, noble humanistic sentiment and work ethic. Graduates should possess basic mastery of journalism and communication theory and strong operational ability of research and practice.

Ⅱ. Objectives

1、Have a certain humanistic quality, and systematically grasp the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of journalism and communication.

2、Be proficient in using various new media technologies and adapt to the new media communication environment.

3、Be familiar with the promotion policies and regulations of journalism and communication in China, have basic knowledge of principles of media management and public relations, and have the ability to investigate and think.

4、Be competent for the communication of the integration of traditional news agencies, enterprises,institutions and propaganda public relations and new media. Graduates will have the potential of giving overall thoughts and innovating with pioneering spirit.

Ⅲ. Requirements for Graduation

1、Patriotic, honest and law-abiding, with the correct values and ethics; with highly social responsibility and team-work spirits; with good scientific and cultural awareness.

2、Master requisite fundamentals of the discipline and possess certain knowledge of humanities and social sciences.

3、Students will select their study progress under faculty advisers’ guidance in their department, and graduate after getting required 148 credits.

Length of Schooling: 4 years, students who meet the requirements for the degree will be  awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.

4、It is recommended that students select courses which credits are not higher than 27 at the most and not lower than 20 in the 1st and 2nd grade each semester, while students select course which credits are not higher than 24 at the most and not lower than 14 in the 3rd and 4th grade.

5、The compulsory module of general education requires students to choose one course with 2-credit course in Mathematics and Statistics, the optional module of general education requires students to choose 2-credit course in general education, the optional module of general education requires students to choose 8 credits, and the optional module of platform courses in social sciences requires students to choose 2-credit course, suggesting students to choose “Social Work and a Better Life.”

6、Students are required to graduate in advance or extend the study time which is not more      than 6 years(include stopping off school).

Ⅳ. Curriculum Structure Proportion

1. Total credits: 148

2. General education curriculum:49 credits, accounting for 33%

3. Platform curriculum of social science:13 credits,accounting for 9%

4. Foundation curriculum:18 credits,accounting for 12%

5. Specialized education curriculum:68 credits,accounting for 46%

History of Chinese Journalism and Communication, History of Foreign Journalism, Journalism Collection, Journalism Composition, News Comments, News Photography, TV News Editing, Documentary Production, Introduction of Internet Communication, Mass Media Research Methods, Press Laws and Ethics, Journalism of Broadcast and Television, The Political Economy of Communication, Selections from Classics of Western Journalism and Communication, Selected Readings in Marxist Journalism.
